PSU Recruitment through GATE 2019 – An increasing number of PSUs, current figures stand at 50 plus, today use GATE scores to recruit graduate engineers. Some of the prominent PSUs that use GATE scores for recruitment include BHEL, GAIL, NHPC, BSNL and DMRC. Candidates need to have valid and good GATE scores to be considered for recruitment, as competition is stiff. The trend of PSU recruitment through GATE first started in 2012, when a handful of PSUs used GATE scores for recruitment. The trend took off from there and GATE scores quickly turned into a benchmark that PSUs today use to screen and hire quality highly-educated graduates across various engineering disciplines. The number of vacancies that are filled in these companies through the PSU recruitment through GATE are huge; for instance BSNL hired a record-setting 2,510 GATE candidates this year. GATE scores are valid for a period of three years for M.Tech admissions only and not PSU recruitment. Candidates planning to appear in GATE 2019 to be eligible for PSU recruitment could fill the application form of GATE 2019 from August 31 to October 9, 2019. The application form of GATE 2019 had to be filled through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). GATE 2019 will be held across 23 papers on February 2019. The exam will be of three hours duration and include 65 questions; the total marks of the exam are 100. The result of GATE 2019 will be declared by IIT CHENNAI. The score card of GATE 2019 will also be available for download from March 15, 2019.

  2. Navaratna PSU’s
  3. Mini-ratna PSU’s

Benefits of PSU Recruitment through GATE

There are ample reason why many students run helter-skelter to land a job in a PSU, some of which are listed here, the good and the bad ones both!

  1. The shortlisting is through GATE scores and this is perceived to be unbiased as GATE scores can’t be manipulated. PSU Recruitment through GATE 2019 is also expected to see a high number of applicants on account of this reason.

Eligibility Criteria for PSU Recruitment through GATE 2019

Candidates seeking jobs at the PSUs must meet the eligibility criteria required for the job, which generally is a valid GATE score in a discipline relevant to the job. The PSU may also specify the minimum pass percentage or CGPA obtained in their degree that has be considered while applying. Some also specify age limits. A medical examination after shortlisting is a must for all candidates before recruitment.

Will GATE scores only be considered for PSU Recruitment through GATE 2019?

This is the individual decision of the specific PSU whether they want to hire candidates solely on the basis of GATE score or conduct additional tests. There are some PSUs that use GATE scores only to screen candidates and then conduct group discussions and personal interviews to pick the best candidate. There are some who use the GATE scores directly for recruitment. For example, BSNL didn’t conduct any interview for recruitment for its BSNL JTO Recruitment. On the other hand, NPCIL and KRCL conducts interview for candidates who are shortlisted based on GATE scores.

How to apply for the PSU Recruitment through GATE 2019?

Some PSUs accept both online and offline applications, while there are others that recommend online applications. In case of an offline application, candidates have to download it, fill it and sent the same along with the specified documents.

However, most PSUs announce online applications only. Candidates applying online are generally required to register, upload requisite documents and fill the application. Some PSUs ask for an application fee to be paid online or through a challan/DD.

The GATE Details of the candidates are extremely important and are a pre-requisite to fill the application forms of the respective PSUs. Candidates will be asked to enter their GATE Registration ID which will be available only after the GATE 2018 admit card is announced as it is mentioned in the same. Therefore candidates can safely assume that the applications for the PSU recruitment through GATE 2018 will start from or after January 5, 2018.
